Traditional cooking from Cornwall!
Just a few Cornish recipes from my cook book you could try which will really bring the delicious taste of Cornwall to your table. Do you like fresh baked bread, or the taste of home made cakes? There is nothing that comes even close to the smell of fresh food baking in the oven.
As a child we had a traditional Cornish Range. It was kept burning night and day so the house was always warm and cosy.
Mother made bread and cakes and delicious meals from plain ingredients. We had a small farm and there was always home-made butter and Cornish Clotted cream available. We had plenty of eggs and the occasional chicken. Beef and sausages were purchased from the butcher who visited on a regular basis.
I well remember running back from school to be given a piece of potato cake with the fat dripping from tiny strips of fatty bacon cooked in the mixture! Or scones ready buttered with mother's home made butter! Sometimes if we were lucky, it was a new baked Ginger bread!
Local recipes were handed down through the generations by word of mouth because they were made almost every day. Luckily, my mother took care to teach me all that she knew and I wrote everything down in my diary which eventually became my cook book.
Christmas 1958, an Aunt gave me a empty recipie book as a present. I still have it. It is now full of favourite recipes. Recipes that I will share with you!
